Treetopia Design Council 2016: Christmas in All Shapes and Sizes

When Treetopia asked me to participate in their 2016 Design Council, I was more than thrilled to say YES! I have always wanted to order a pink holiday tree from their web store, but with life being so crazy, the holidays just always snuck up on me and I never got the chance!

The theme of my Christmas tree this year is South Texas. I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, and although I no longer live there, it will always be my home. I am often very homesick for my family and my South Texas heritage, so I decided my tree should be a reflection of all the happy things that remind me of my hometown!

I started with an assortment of novelty glass ornaments.  Tacos, burritos, avocados, margaritas and chili peppers (because Mexican food is part of daily life down there!). Cowboy hats for my dad! Balloons and piรฑatas for fiestas (and my favorite things to shop for at home). Cactuses, palm trees (yes we have palm trees in Corpus Christi) and yellow roses for The Yellow Rose of Texas. Red roses for Selena, Como La Flor! Pink bicycles, because I left my beloved pink bicycle at my childhood home. I ride it every time I'm there! Every detail I picked had a special meaning and significance!

I finished off the tree with decorative gold balls, disco balls and these beautiful glass icicle ornaments from Treetopia.

Here are some process pictures from start to finish! I didn't really get any pictures of the bare tree because I was so focused on decorating it I completely forgot!

I hope you like my tree! What are some of your unique family holiday traditions? I would love to hear! Thanks for taking a peek!

Day Trip to Briggs Nursery

I have a love hate relationship with cold weather. Being from the southern gulf coast of Texas, I enjoy being hot more than being cold...but there is something about chilly weather that is still a novelty to me, even after 10 years of living in New England!

That being said, I am now SO ready for winter to be over. I want to see green, I want to plant flowers and I want to feel the warm sun on my skin! My dear friend Courtney and I decided to cure our winter blues by taking a trip to the Briggs Nursery in North Attleboro, MA. It's a seriously beautiful nursery and garden store and we had so much fun enjoying all of the flowers, ferns, succulents and cactuses!

adventures in cuttyhunk

One of my kindred spirits and favorite people, Martha, invited me out to Cuttyhunk Island for a few days this summer and it was honestly such a magical place. Cuttyhunk is teeny tiny island off the coast of Massachusetts. Martha's family has been spending summers there for years and years. Her families homes have the most amazing vintage decor and wallpapers and I had so much fun poking around all of the rooms! It was a total time warp! We spent the days driving around in a golf cart (no cars on the island), swimming in the ocean, eating lobster and ice cream and just straight up RELAXING. With terrible cell phone service, it was nice to be disconnected for a few days.

a glimpse of west texas

Here's some pictures from my mini road trip through West Texas during the summertime! I was out in Midland, Texas for a week helping my Auntie clean out her home to get it ready for sale. We worked long and hard all week (in 98 degree heat) and filled a U-Haul with family belongings. I had the fun job of driving it home (seriously, I love driving so much that I sometimes wish I could be a truck driver) so I decided to take a slight detour and take a weekend to relax and explore some of beautiful West Texas! I finally got to see Prada Marfa, the Davis Mountains, long lonely stretches of beautiful desert and historic Alpine! I wish we had more time, I can't wait to get back!
